Ten Outstanding Young Malaysian (TOYM) Program was originated from Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World Program, which was developed by Durwood Howes, the President of United State of Jaycees for year 1930 and 1931. Junior Chamber International adopted the Program in year 1982.
The JCI TOYM program was launched by Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCIM) in year 1985 to commemorate the International Year of the Youth. JCIM then decided to adopt this program as part of JCIM annual project.
To accord recognition to young Malaysian between the ages of 18 to 40, whose dedication to their profession or life undertakings has resulted in exceptional achievement, in the form of significant contributions to the progress or welfare of the community at large and to the advancement of their respective field of endeavor.
To create public awareness and give proper recognition to the outstanding achievements of the honorees, thereby serving as inspirational examples and incentives to the young Malaysian to forge ahead to greater heights of achievements in the spirit of selfless dedication for the further development of the community.
Honorees selected in past years have represented the heights of progress in all human endeavors. Many have gone on to even greater achievements. All have continued to serve humanity in a great variety of ways.
Junior Chamber International Malaysia will honor the Ten Outstanding Young Malaysian in an Award Ceremony. The ceremony will highlight each winner’s career in narrative form and provide a stage from which the honorees can challenge and inspire young people from around the country. For each honoree, there will be a presentation profiling his/her accomplishments, followed by the trophy presentation, and an acceptance speech.
